Target Information
Peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2 is encoded by the HSD17B4 gene in humans.
This bifunctional enzyme participates in the peroxisomal β-oxidation pathway for fatty acids, catalyzing formation of 3-ketoacyl-CoA intermediates from straight-chain and 2-methyl-branched-chain fatty acids.
Defects in this gene can cause D-bifunctional protein deficiency (DBPD).
A pseudogene is present on chromosome 8, and multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants produce distinct isoforms.
