Target Information
Myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), also known as the myosin-binding subunit of myosin phosphatase, is one of the subunits of myosin phosphatase. It regulates the interaction between actin and myosin downstream of the small GTPase Rho. RhoA, in its active GTP-bound form, interacts with the myosin-binding subunit (MBS) of myosin phosphatase to modulate myosin light chain (MLC) phosphorylation, leading to smooth muscle contraction and actin–myosin interaction in nonmuscle cells. Rho-associated kinase (Rho-kinase), activated by GTP-RhoA, phosphorylates and inactivates myosin phosphatase, increasing MBS and MLC phosphorylation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
