Target Information
Mast cell chymase is a chymotryptic serine proteinase belonging to the peptidase family S1. It is expressed in mast cells and functions in extracellular matrix degradation, regulation of gland secretion, and generation of vasoactive peptides. In cardiovascular tissues, it converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, implicating it in blood pressure regulation and the pathogenesis of hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, and heart failure. The gene maps to 14q11.2 in a cluster of protease-encoding genes.
