Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across intra- and extracellular membranes and are classified into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
This protein is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is associated with multidrug resistance. It functions in transporting degraded cytosolic peptides into the endoplasmic reticulum for assembly with class I molecules.
Mutations in this gene may be linked to ankylosing spondylitis, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and celiac disease.
