Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antibody is specific for STAT5 R31/Me1 and does not react with other STATs surrounding aa31. BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with human, mouse, and rat STAT5. Cross-reactivity with STAT5 from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

STAT5 alpha is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases and form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators.

STAT5 alpha mediates responses to ligands such as IL2, IL3, IL7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin, and growth hormones. Activation of STAT5 alpha in myeloma and lymphoma associated with TEL/JAK2 gene fusion is independent of cell stimulus and essential for tumorigenesis. The mouse counterpart induces BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) expression, suggesting anti-apoptotic function. STAT5 alpha and STAT5 beta share 96% sequence similarity and are co-expressed in most tissues, though differential mRNA accumulation occurs in muscle and mammary tissues. STAT5 alpha plays critical roles in reproduction, lactation, immune function, and somatic growth.
