Specificity: KM-2 antibody recognizes the N-terminal peptides 1-20 of histone H2A and 1-29 of histone H4 which have a large sequence homology. Histone H4 acetylation on lysines 8, 12 and 16 significantly increases the antibody`s binding while the acetylation at K5 decreases it.
Target Information
H4 acetylation at lysine residues 8, 12, and 16 is a well-characterized post-translational modification that is associated with transcriptional activation. This modification is catalyzed by histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and is often found at promoter regions of actively transcribed genes. It is believed to facilitate chromatin remodeling and transcription factor recruitment, ultimately leading to increased gene expression. However, the precise mechanisms by which H4 acetylation at these specific lysine residues contributes to gene regulation are still under investigation.
