Target Information

Mammalian apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE/ref-1) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in DNA repair and redox regulation of transcription factors such as Fos, Jun, NF-κB, Myb, HIF-1α, CREB, and Pax. It participates in cell cycle control (p53) and apoptosis. APE repairs abasic sites caused by oxidative stress, radiation, or chemical damage. Expression levels vary by tissue and developmental stage, and regulation occurs partly via phosphorylation by casein kinase II. APE levels increase upon reoxygenation of hypoxic cells and in some malignant tissues, while decreases are associated with apoptosis induction.
