Target Information
The CEP170 protein is a component of the centrosome, the major microtubule-organizing center in animal cells. During interphase, it localizes to the sub-distal appendages of mature centrioles, contributing to centrosome organization. During mitosis, it associates with spindle microtubules near centrosomes. CEP170 interacts with and is phosphorylated by polo-like kinase 1, playing a role in maintaining microtubule organization and cell morphology. The human genome includes a putative transcribed pseudogene, and multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
