Target Information

E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin from the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It encodes a glycoprotein responsible for cell-cell adhesion, consisting of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Mutations in this gene are associated with various cancers including gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancer. Loss of E-cadherin function contributes to cancer progression by increasing proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells, while the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization. E-cadherin, encoded by the CDH1 gene on chromosome 16, plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue architecture and integrity.
