14-3-3 epsilon 단백질은 인산화 세린 잔기를 포함하는 단백질과 결합하여 신호 전달을 매개하는 14-3-3 단백질군에 속합니다. 이 단백질군은 식물과 포유류 모두에서 보존되어 있으며, 마우스 상동체와 100% 동일합니다.
CDC25 인산화효소, RAF1, IRS1 단백질과 상호작용하며, 세포 분열 및 인슐린 감수성 조절 등 다양한 생화학적 신호전달 과정에 관여합니다. 또한 소세포폐암의 발병과 관련이 있는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
이 유전자는 단백질 코딩형과 비코딩형 두 가지 전사 변이를 가집니다.
