GDF-5 유전자 돌연변이는 Hunter-Thompson형 왜소증 및 Grebe 증후군과 관련이 있으며, 이는 저신장, 다지증, 사지 기형을 특징으로 합니다.
GDF-5의 성숙 형태는 두 개의 120 아미노산 사슬이 단일 이황화 결합으로 연결된 호모다이머입니다. 각 GDF-5 단량체는 27 아미노산 시그널 펩타이드와 354 아미노산 프로펩타이드를 포함하는 전구체의 C-말단 부분으로 발현되며, 세포 내 이량체화 후 furin-type protease에 의해 절단되어 분비됩니다.
