Target Information
The FGF12 gene encodes a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which exhibits mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGFs are involved in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
Unlike other FGFs, FGF12 lacks an N-terminal signal sequence but contains nuclear localization signals that cause accumulation in the nucleus rather than secretion. The specific biological function of this gene is not fully determined. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
