Target Information

Mimitin is a small mitochondrial protein whose transcription is directly stimulated by c-Myc and is highly expressed in approximately 80% of esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (ESCC). Suppression of Mimitin expression by RNA interference showed no effect in certain cancer cell lines such as human cervical carcinoma or hepatocarcinoma, but caused decreased proliferation in human glioblastoma, embryonic lung fibroblastic cells, and ESCC. This suggests Mimitin may play a specific role in these cell types.
Mimitin expression is regulated by MAPK kinases and IL-1, but not through the NF-kappa-B-related pathway. It interacts with the microtubular protein MAP1S and can affect caspase-3 and -7 activities during apoptosis. Other studies indicate Mimitin may act as a molecular chaperone for mitochondrial complex I assembly.
