POU5F1 (Oct-4)는 초기 발생 단계에서 발견된 최초의 전사 인자로, 배아 발달과 줄기세포 형성에 핵심적인 역할을 합니다. POU5F1은 Sox2, Klf4, Lin28 및 c-Myc와 함께 발현될 때 유도만능줄기세포(iPS cell) 생성에 사용될 수 있습니다. 최근에는 바이러스 도입 없이 플라스미드를 통해 iPS 세포를 생성하는 방법이 개발되어 재생의학 응용에서 안전성이 향상되었습니다.
