Target Information
PDZK1 is a scaffold protein that connects plasma membrane proteins and regulatory components, regulating their surface expression in epithelial cell apical domains. It may coordinate diverse regulatory processes related to ion transport and second messenger cascades.
In complex with SLC9A3R1, it may cluster functionally dependent proteins and modulate membrane protein trafficking and activity.
PDZK1 may also play a role in multidrug resistance mechanisms via interactions with ABCC2 and PDZK1IP1, and can potentiate CFTR chloride channel activity.
Additionally, it connects SCARB1 with intracellular cholesterol transport or metabolism and may regulate proximal tubular Na⁺-dependent phosphate cotransport, contributing to tubule function.
