Target Information
Embigin is a 327 amino acid regulatory protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily of CAMs, containing two Ig-like V-type domains. It possesses specific carbohydrate epitopes and plays an important role in early postimplantation embryogenesis. As a highly glycosylated transmembrane glycoprotein, Embigin regulates cell–ECM interactions during development and tissue homeostasis. Transfection studies indicate its role in promoting integrin-mediated cell–substratum adhesion. It is widely expressed in various tissues and cancer cell lines, including prostate and mammary carcinoma cells, and may aid in human carcinoma classification.
