Traditional methods of plant cell wall disruption that rely on tissue pulverization in liquid nitrogen using a mortar and pestle are not needed when taking advantage of the Plant DNA Isolation Reagent. This plant DNA extraction kit makes preparing multiple samples at the same time more convenient. Furthermore, improvements in reagent composition reduce heat treatment time to only 15 minutes. In its entirety, the plant DNA extraction process can be completed within 30 minutes. Purified plant genomic DNA can be used directly for downstream applications such as PCR or restriction endonuclease digestion.

Our Plant DNA Isolation Reagent is a ready-to-use plant DNA extraction kit that includes benzyl chloride for extraction of plant genomic DNA. Benzyl chloride causes disintegration of plant cell walls by benzylation of the cellulose hydroxyl groups and other components of the plant cell wall. This kit takes advantage of benzyl chloride and uses it in a procedure that involves freezing the plant tissue, then thawing and grinding it with a pipette tip in a microcentrifuge tube. The freeze-thawing and grinding effectively degrade the plant cell wall.
