Target Information
G-protein coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Functions as a receptor for various drugs and psychoactive substances including mescaline, psilocybin, DOI, and LSD. Ligand binding induces conformational changes that trigger G-protein signaling and modulate downstream effectors. Beta-arrestin family members inhibit G-protein signaling and activate alternative pathways. Signaling activates phospholipase C and a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, influencing phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity and intracellular Ca²⁺ release. Involved in neural activity, perception, cognition, and mood regulation. Plays roles in behavior modulation, intestinal smooth muscle contraction, and arterial vasoconstriction.
