Target Information
NUCB2 was initially identified as a calcium-binding protein containing EF-hand motifs that can bind with Necdin, a growth suppressor expressed primarily in postmitotic neurons.
NUCB2 is a secreted protein cleaved into three major peptide products — Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, and Nesfatin-3 — among which Nesfatin-1 suppresses food intake in a leptin-independent manner.
Other studies suggest that NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 may play roles in energy homeostasis and related neuroendocrine functions.
