This antibody detects endogenous levels of total Smad1/9.

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMAD family, homologous to the Drosophila mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and C. elegans Sma genes.
SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators that mediate multiple signaling pathways.
SMAD1/9 mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, involved in cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses.
Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1/9 is phosphorylated by BMP receptor kinase and forms a complex with SMAD4 to regulate transcription.
It is also a target for SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2), leading to ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
