MA5-13259 targets Desmin in IF and IHC (P) applications and shows reactivity with Bovine, Canine, Chicken, Feline, Hamster, Human, Non-human primate, and Rat samples.
The MA5-13259 immunogen is desmin from human muscle.
Target Information
Desmin (approximately 53 kDa) exhibits a high degree of tissue specificity, being predominantly confined to muscle cells (cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle).
Its expression is stage and tissue-specific, induced during terminal development of skeletal muscle differentiation.
In skeletal and cardiac muscle cells, desmin localizes to the Z-disk region and intercalated disk.
Expression in smooth muscle is more heterogeneous.
Coexpression of vimentin and desmin occurs in muscle-derived tumors such as rhabdomyosarcomas and leiomyosarcomas.
During myocardial dysfunction, dramatic changes in desmin distribution have been observed.
