Target Information
MLCK (also known as MYLK3) is a myosin light chain kinase that facilitates muscle contraction by phosphorylating myosin light chains, promoting interaction with actin filaments. It plays a key role in vascular permeability and tissue edema formation. In the nervous system, MLCK regulates astrocytic process growth and neurotransmitter release at synapses. It is also involved in fibroblast apoptosis signaling. Smooth muscle and non-muscle isoforms are expressed in many adult and fetal tissues. The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is widely expressed. MLCK activity is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation and the protein includes one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
