Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (~65 kDa) synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which is processed to proalbumin and then cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce the secreted albumin.
