Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that comprises about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (~65,000 Da) synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. The N-terminal peptide is removed before release from the rough endoplasmic reticulum, producing proalbumin, which is further cleaved in the Golgi apparatus to yield secreted albumin.
