This antibody has specificity for Human SUMO2.
Target Information
SUMO2 is a member of the SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) protein family. This family functions similarly to ubiquitin, binding to target proteins as part of a post-translational modification system. Unlike ubiquitin, which targets proteins for degradation, SUMO2 is involved in various cellular processes such as nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, apoptosis, and protein stability.
In vertebrates, three SUMO family members are described: SUMO1, SUMO2, and SUMO3. SUMO2 and SUMO3 possess modification sites in their N-terminal regions that allow formation of polymeric chains via SAE1/SAE2 (SUMO E1) and Ubc9 (SUMO E2), a property not shared by SUMO1.
