Target Information
NSUN4 is a 5-methylcytosine rRNA methyltransferase involved in mitochondrial ribosome assembly. Specifically, NSUN4 participates in the maturation of the mitochondrial ribosome small subunit (SSU) by methylating mitochondrial 12S rRNA. This activity is independent of MTREFD2/MTERF4 and the assembled large subunit (LSU). NSUN4 is targeted to LSU by MTREFD2/MTERF4 and functions in the final step of ribosome biogenesis to ensure proper assembly of SSU and LSU.
