Target Information
Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. About 1% of people over 65 and 3% over 75 are affected. Mutations in SNCAIP (Synphilin-1) are linked to Parkinson’s disease. Synphilin-1 interacts with alpha-synuclein and contains several protein–protein interaction domains. It plays a key role in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease, potentially involving Dorfin-mediated ubiquitylation. Synphilin-1 also contributes to synaptic function, protein degradation, and neurodegeneration mechanisms.
