Target Information
Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s, affecting about 1% of people over 65 and 3% over 75. Mutations in SNCAIP (Synphilin-1) are linked to Parkinson’s disease. Synphilin-1 interacts with alpha-synuclein and contains several protein-protein interaction domains. Its amino acid sequence shows extensive homology between human and mouse, particularly in ankyrin-like motifs and coiled-coil domains. Synphilin-1 plays a key role in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease, and Dorfin may contribute through ubiquitylation of Synphilin-1. It is also involved in synaptic function, protein degradation, and molecular mechanisms leading to neurodegeneration.
