Target Information

CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on many stem cell populations. It functions as a stem cell marker and may act as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells. CD34 expression represents a specific hematopoietic developmental state with altered adhesion and differentiation properties. It may mediate stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and serve as a scaffold for glycan attachment, enabling interactions with lectins. The intracellular domain can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
