Target Information
This gene belongs to the UBA domain family, which includes proteins associated with ubiquitin and the ubiquitination pathway. The ubiquitin-associated domain is a non-covalent ubiquitin binding domain consisting of a compact three-helix bundle. The ABCD1 protein originates from a gene locus on chromosome 9, known to undergo loss of heterozygosity in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Given its cytogenetic location, this family member is studied as a potential target for mutation in NPC. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
