Target Information
Collagens are highly conserved structural proteins characterized by an uninterrupted Gly-X-Y triplet repeat.
- Col1: Found in most connective tissues; mutations linked to osteogenesis imperfecta, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and idiopathic osteoporosis.
- Col2: Found in cartilage and vitreous humor; mutations linked to achondrogenesis, chondrodysplasia, and early-onset familial osteoarthritis.
- Col3: Found in extensible connective tissues such as skin, lung, and vascular system; mutations associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type IV and aneurysms.
- Col4: Major component of basement membranes with laminins and enactins; composed of α1(IV) and α2(IV) chains. Useful for detecting loss of basement membrane integrity in carcinomas.
- Col5: Found with Col1, regulates fiber assembly; mutations associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
