Target Information
AGTR1 (Angiotensin II Type 1 Receptor)
Angiotensin II is a potent vasopressor hormone and a primary regulator of aldosterone secretion. It plays a key role in controlling blood pressure and volume in the cardiovascular system, acting through at least two receptor types. The AGTR1 gene encodes the type 1 receptor, which mediates the major cardiovascular effects of angiotensin II. It may also be involved in reperfusion arrhythmias following restoration of blood flow to ischemic or infarcted myocardium. Although a related gene (AGTR1B) was once thought to exist, it is now believed that humans have only one type 1 receptor gene. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported for this gene.
