Product Specific Information

The 5B2 antibody reacts with the p19 subunit of mouse IL-23. When combined with the C17.8 antibody, it enables a more sensitive IL-23 sandwich ELISA compared to previous assays. The 5B2 antibody is non-neutralizing.

IL-23 is a heterodimeric cytokine composed of the p40 subunit of IL-12 disulfide-linked with a protein p19. The p19 subunit alone is biologically inactive. IL-23 interacts with IL-12Rβ1 and an additional receptor subunit, IL-23R, containing a STAT4 binding domain. IL-23 is secreted by activated mouse and human dendritic cells.

In mice, IL-23 differs functionally from IL-12. It does not induce significant IFN-γ production but promotes proliferation and IL-17 production in memory T cells. In humans, IL-23 induces both memory T-cell proliferation and moderate IFN-γ production compared to IL-12.

Applications Reported:
The anti-mouse p19 5B2 antibody is used as a capture antibody in mouse IL-23 sandwich ELISA, paired with anti-p40 C17.8 as the detector.

For specific neutralization of mouse IL-23 activity (without affecting IL-12 p70), use the functional grade purified G23-8 antibody (Product #16-7232-81).


Target Information

IL-23 is a heterodimeric cytokine composed of the p40 subunit of IL-12 linked with p19. The p19 subunit alone is inactive. IL-23 binds to IL-12Rβ1 and IL-23R, leading to activation of STAT4 signaling. It is secreted by activated dendritic cells in both mouse and human systems.
Mouse IL-23 promotes proliferation and IL-17 production in memory T cells but not naïve T cells, whereas IL-12 does not affect memory cells. Human IL-23 also induces memory T-cell proliferation and moderate IFN-γ production compared to IL-12.
