Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24.
It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in:

  • Cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression
  • Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK
  • Vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development

The deregulated expression of c-Myc induces apoptosis and contributes to neoplastic transformation.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to amino- or carboxy-termini of targeted proteins.
Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is associated with various human cancers, including:

  • Lung, breast, colon carcinomas
  • Neuroblastomas (N-Myc amplification)
  • Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders

Aberrant c-Myc expression occurs in tumors of multiple origins such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
