Target Information
LMX1B (LIM homeobox transcription factor 1B) belongs to the LIM-homeodomain family, which plays a key role in developmental pattern formation. LMX1B regulates mid-hindbrain patterning, and LMX1B-deficient mouse embryos show a severe reduction in midbrain dopaminergic neurons compared to wild-type. LMX1B is essential for both development and survival of dopamine neurons, while the related LMX1A is critical for their differentiation. Together, LMX1A and LMX1B cooperatively regulate the proliferation, specification, and differentiation of midbrain dopaminergic neuronal progenitors.
