Target Information
This gene belongs to the protocadherin gene family, a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily. The encoded protein includes an extracellular domain with 7 cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail distinct from classical cadherins. Located in a major X/Y block of homology, its closely related member resides on the X chromosome. The protein likely plays a key role in cell-cell recognition essential for central nervous system development and function. Alternative splicing generates isoforms with N- and C-terminal variation.
