MMP3 (stromelysin-1)은 peptidase M10A 서브패밀리에 속하며, 비활성 전구체(pro-protein) 형태로 분비되어 세포 외 단백질분해효소에 의해 활성화됩니다.
활성화된 MMP3는 아연 및 칼슘 이온과 결합하며, 콜라겐, 젤라틴, 피브로넥틴, 라미닌 등을 분해하는 메탈로엔도펩티다아제 활성을 가집니다.
상처 치유와 조직 재형성 등 정상 세포 과정에 관여하며, 유전자 변이는 관상동맥 심질환 6형과 관련될 수 있습니다.
