Target Information

Transcription elongation factor which binds histone H3 and plays a key role in the regulation of transcription elongation and mRNA processing. Enhances transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) and is required for activation by the HIV-1 transcriptional activator Tat. Forms a complex with IWS1 and the C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNAPII subunit RPB1 (POLR2A), recruiting mRNA export factors and histone modifying enzymes such as SETD2 for proper mRNA splicing and elongation-coupled H3K36 methylation. Also regulates class-switch recombination and somatic hypermutation via H3K4me3 epigenetic marks on AICDA target loci, and promotes myogenic gene activation through KDM6A-mediated H3K27me3 demethylation.
