Target Information

CLC-KA is a kidney-specific chloride channel mediating transepithelial chloride transport in the thin ascending limb of the Henle loop within the inner medulla. It plays a crucial role in urine concentration.
The human CLC-KA gene maps to chromosome 1p36. Mutations may be associated with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus when vasopressin V2 receptor and AQP2 mutations are absent.
CLC-KB mediates basolateral chloride ion efflux in the thick ascending limb and distal nephron segments. Mutations in CLC-KB cause type III Bartter’s syndrome, characterized by renal salt wasting and low blood pressure.
