CYP17A1 유전자는 cytochrome P450 초과가족에 속하는 효소를 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 약물 대사, 콜레스테롤 및 스테로이드 합성에 관여하며, 소포체에 위치합니다. 17α-hydroxylase 및 17,20-lyase 활성을 가지며, 프로게스틴, 미네랄코르티코이드, 글루코코르티코이드, 안드로겐, 에스트로겐 생성에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 steroid-17α-hydroxylase 결핍, 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase 결핍, 가성반음양증, 부신비대증과 관련이 있습니다.
