RRP4는 RNA exosome complex의 비촉매 구성요소로, 3'→5' exoribonuclease 활성을 가진 RNA 분해 및 처리 과정에 관여합니다. 핵 내에서는 rRNA, snRNA, snoRNA 등의 안정적 RNA 성숙에 필요하며, 비암호화 RNA 및 결함이 있는 mRNA의 제거를 통해 세포 내 RNA 품질을 유지합니다. 세포질에서는 AU-rich element(ARE)를 포함한 불안정한 mRNA의 분해 및 RNA 감시 경로에 관여합니다. EXOSC2는 Exo-9 복합체의 주변부 단위로, RNase PH-domain 하위단위의 안정화에 기여합니다.
