Target Information
Neurofilaments are composed of three intermediate filament proteins — NEFL, NEFM, and NEFH — which are crucial for maintaining neuronal caliber. NEFH plays an essential role in mature axons, not shared by the smaller NF proteins. It may also cooperate with neuronal intermediate filament proteins PRPH and INA to form filamentous networks within neurons.
