Target Information

CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker, with reversible expression on human hematopoietic stem cells. CD34 may function as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors. It likely mediates attachment to bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and may act as a scaffold for glycan attachment, facilitating interactions with lectins. The intracellular domain is phosphorylated by activated protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction.
Diseases associated with CD34 dysfunction include dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
