Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates the expression of downstream target genes related to growth, survival, and other cellular activities.
Phosphorylation at serine 63 by various kinases enhances transactivation and transcriptional activities, promoting cell transformation.
Fusion events involving this gene and FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generate chimeric proteins found in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma.
A pseudogene exists on chromosome 6.
