Target Information
The MEF2D gene belongs to the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family of transcription factors. Members of this family regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development and are modulated by class II histone deacetylases.
Fusions of MEF2D with Deleted in Azoospermia-Associated Protein 1 (DAZAP1) have been identified in acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines, suggesting a potential role in leukemogenesis. The encoded protein is also implicated in Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
