CSMD1 (CUB and Sushi multiple domains 1) is a protein encoded by the CSMD1 gene in humans. It acts as a potential tumor suppressor, and its deletion may lead to more aggressive head and neck carcinomas.
CSMD1 is part of the complement system, defending against pathogens through the classical or alternative pathway. Primarily located in nerve growth cones, CSMD1 blocks the classical immune pathway and is implicated in tumor suppression, as defects in this gene are associated with squamous cell carcinomas.
