Calpastatin은 내인성 칼페인(calcium-dependent cysteine protease) 억제 단백질로, N-말단 도메인 L과 네 개의 반복적인 칼페인 억제 도메인(domains 1–4)으로 구성되어 있습니다. 이 단백질은 amyloid precursor protein의 단백질 분해에 관여하며, 신경 소포의 외포작용, 혈소판 및 적혈구 응집과 같은 다양한 막 융합 과정에 관련되어 있습니다. 또한 구조적 또는 조절 단백질을 암호화하는 유전자의 발현 수준에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
