Target Information
Caspase 2 gene encodes a protein that belongs to the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. Sequential activation of caspases plays a central role in the execution phase of cell apoptosis. Caspases exist as inactive proenzymes that undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to produce large and small subunits, which dimerize to form the active enzyme. Proteolytic cleavage of this protein is induced by various apoptotic stimuli. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
