The RM4-4 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by the majority of thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells and plays an important role in T cell development and function.
Binding of RM4-4 does not block binding of CD4 monoclonal antibodies RM4-5 or GK1.5.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse splenocytes at ≤ 0.125 µg/test (100 µL final volume).
Cell count range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.
Careful titration recommended for optimal assay performance.

Target Information

CD4 antigen recognizes MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. Expressed mainly on T helper lymphocytes, but also on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
Detected in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues.
Functions in T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase.
May mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
