Target Information
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in multiple cellular functions, including assembly of multiprotein complexes, transport of nascent polypeptides across membranes, and regulation of protein folding.
They are classified into six major families: HSP 90, HSP 70, HSP 60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP 110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP 10, HSP 20, HSP 27 (Heme Oxygenase 1), HSP 32, and HSP 40.
Chaperonins, such as E. coli GroEL and GroES (HSP 10), are essential ATP-dependent folding facilitators that enhance proper protein folding.
HSP 10 forms a heptameric ring of identical 10 kDa subunits, binding to each end of GroEL to form a functional heterodimer.
